Reid and Angle Tied in Nevada Senate Race

Former Nevada Republican Assemblywoman Sharron Angle is tied with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at 43 percent in the latest poll of the Nevada Senate race from Mason-Dixon Polling & Research. The two candidates remain unpopular, and the latest poll shows 4 percent of voters supporting the "none of these candidates" ballot option.
Still, in an ominous sign for Reid, the latest poll shows Angle with a 20-point lead among nonaffiliated voters (51 percent to 31 percent).
Democrats have targeted Angle, attempting to cast her and other tea party-backed Republican candidates as outside the mainstream. However, despite the heavy criticism focused on his opponent, Reid, a four-term incumbent, continues to be weighed down by dismal approval ratings and a Nevada economy with record 14.4 percent unemployment. Fifty-four percent of voters surveyed by Mason-Dixon have an unfavorable view of Reid while 47 percent have an unfavorable view of Angle.
The Mason-Dixon poll is in line with recent polls that have shown a statistical dead heat. While Reid led narrowly in most polls released in July and August, Angle has taken one-point leads in two Fox News polls and one CNN/Time poll released in September. Reid led by two points in the last Mason-Dixon poll conducted September 7th through 9th. The candidates are tied in the RCP Average.
For this poll, Mason-Dixon surveyed 625 likely Nevada voters from Monday through Wednesday. It has a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.
