Marist Poll: Obama's Handling of Oil Spill
Posted by Kyle Trygstad | Email This | Permalink | Email Author
A new Marist poll finds 57% of voters believe President Obama's handling of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill is either the same or worse than George W. Bush's handling of Katrina. This includes a third of Democrats, 63% of independents and, not surprisingly, 80% of Republicans. Overall, 53% disapprove of Obama's handling of the crisis.
"Despite President Obama's frequent attempts to plug the hole in his public opinion, Republicans and independent voters have not taken heed,” says Marist polling director Lee M. Miringoff.
Voters are not nearly as divided about BP's handling of the crisis, as 83% disapprove of what the oil company has done since the spill. Six-in-10 voters "strongly disapprove."
The survey was conducted of 813 registered voters nationwide from June 17-24 with a margin of error of +/- 3.5%.
