In the wake of deep blue New Jersey tossing out its incumbent Democratic Governor earlier this month, a new poll from Quinnipiac shows how dissatisfied the Garden State voters are with their elected officials and the general state of the state:
Jon Corzine (D)
31 approve (-5 vs. last poll June 10)
59 disapprove (+3)
State Legislature
21 approve (-7)
65 disapprove (+9)
Senator Frank Lautenberg (D)
40 approve (-4)
41 disapprove (+5)
Senator Robert Menendez (D)
36 approve (-4)
37 disapprove (+6)
President Barack Obama (D)
51 approve (-5 vs. last poll Aug 12)
42 disapprove (+3)
Satisfied/Dissatisfied with the way things are going in NJ
1 Very Satisfied (-2 vs last poll July 15)
24 Somewhat Satisfied (-6)
31 Somewhat Dissatisfied (-2)
42 Very Dissatisfied (+9)
Eighty three percent say New Jersey's budget problem is "very serious," up fifteen points since the middle of August. Sixty-eight percent of New Jersey voters would rather "cut services" to balance the state budget while only 23% would prefer to raise taxes.
Among those cost cutting measures favored by voters, 61% support laying off state workers (33% oppose) while 75% support a "wage freeze" for state employees.
