Of course, support for health plan slipping...for now

Did you think it wouldn't?

The public has been watching the sausage being made. That's a drawback of having Congress do this. Whatever your beliefs on health reform, there's something not to like. And if you haven't been focusing on the details, you've had $9 million in negative advertising to scare you.

But I don't agree with most analysts that by failing to nail down reform before the August recess, Obama faces less chance of success. The supporters also know how to advertise, and with the Blue Dog Democrats now on board, they can do so in a united fashion.

It's not that the public doesn't still support reform. Some 49 percent of respondents to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll said they wanted "fundamental changes" to the health care system, and 33 percent wanted it "completely rebuilt." Only 7 percent preferred "minor changes."
