NJ Gov Poll: Corzine Struggling

A new Monmouth/Gannett poll of the New Jersey governor's race shows that Jon Corzine continues to struggle in his bid for reelection. Corzine's approval rating stands at 40%, with 49% disapproving, and more people view him unfavorably (47%) than view him favorably (43%).

In particular, Corzine appears to be suffering from ongoing voter discontent over property taxes. 48% of those surveyed singled out property taxes as the most important issue in need of discussion, a full 15 points above the next issue on the list (the economy) and more than 30 points above education and healthcare.

In hypothetical general election match ups, Corzine trails one possible Republican challenger, Chris Christie, and holds a slight lead over the other, Steve Lonegan.

Christie (R) 39
Corzine (D) 35
Undecided 18

Corzine (D) 37
Lonegan (R) 33
Undecided 20
