Obama To Fill Interior, Agriculture Today

President-elect Obama will nominate two more people for his cabinet today at a 10:45 a.m. CT press conference in Chicago. Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.) will be nominated for Interior Secretary and former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack nominated for Agriculture Secretary.

The selection of Salazar, elected to Congress in 2004, opens up another Democratic Senate seat, following seats in Illinois, Delaware and New York. Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D) will appoint someone to fill the seat until the 2010 election.

Vilsack is a former opponent of Obama, as he briefly ran for president before dropping out shortly after Obama offially announced his own bid. Vilsack joins Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Bill Richardson as former opponents in the cabinet.
