Not Quite Bipartisan

In announcing the selection of Madeleine Albright and Jim Leach to attend the G-20 meeting, the Obama campaign called it a "bipartisan team." Well, not quite. Yes, Leach was a Republican representing Iowa's 2nd District before he was defeated in 2006 by Democrat Dave Loebsack. But, perhaps forgotten in the noise of the election, is that Leach endorsed Obama and spoke at the DNC convention in Denver.

I guess one's definition of bipartisan is what matters here, but the Obama team should be a little more careful trumpeting bipartisanship when he taps his Republican supporters.

UPDATE: CQ's David Nather notices the same thing:

Let's just say Leach, who endorsed Obama and in Denver, always fell into the “usual one or two defectors” category. It might well pay off for him with an appointment to a post in the Obama administration. But Republicans will probably be looking for more than that before they're satisfied that they're actually being heard in the new administration.
