Bachmann: I Didn't Question Obama's Patriotism

Rep. Michele Bachmann's re-election prospects went from likely to questionable in a matter of minutes Friday, when the freshman Republican from Minnesota said on national television that she was "very concerned that [Obama] may have anti-American views."
Bachmann also questioned whether every member of Congress had pro-American views. "I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out are they pro-America or anti-America," she said Friday.
Bachmann made the comments on MSNBC's "Hardball," and said yesterday that she had never seen the show and "probably should have said no to Chris Matthews," according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Speaking to the Rotary Club of St. Cloud, Bachmann also denied questioning Obama's patriotism. "I did not, nor do I, question Barack Obama's patriotism. ... I did not say that Barack Obama is anti-American nor do I believe that Barack Obama is anti-American."
By Monday, Bachmann's Democratic opponent, former state Transportation Commissioner Elwyn Tinklenberg, had raised more than $800,000 from donors around the country. This bump in cash, along with the general outrage over Bachmann's comments, has made this race for Minnesota's 6th District one Democrats all of a sudden are optimistic about.
