The Wisconsin Advertising Project is out with new numbers today that detail how much and where the Obama and McCain campaigns spent on advertising. According to the report, Obama and McCain spent a combined $28 million on TV advertising from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. Obama dropped $17.5 million to McCain and the RNC's $11 million.
Obama's top ad buys were in Ohio ($2.22 million), Florida ($2.21m), Pennsylvania ($2.20m) and Virginia ($2.06m). Three of the four states were won by Pres. Bush in 2004, and Pennsylvania is one of the more vulnerable states won by John Kerry in '04.
McCain's top buys were in Ohio ($1.73m), Pennsylvania ($1.65m), Michigan ($1.25m) and Wisconsin ($896k). McCain was playing offense as well, with three of the top four states won by Kerry. Of course, McCain pulled staff and resources out of Michigan following this buy.
During the week, 100% of McCain's ads were found to be negative, while 34% of Obama's ads were negative.
