McCain Camp Confirms Michigan Report

The McCain campaign confirmed an earlier report that it would be pulling resources out of Michigan, a clear sign that the campaign does not like its chances there. Politico first reported the move.
"Operations will be scaled back" in Michigan, said McCain political director Mike DuHaime on a conference call with reporters. "It's been the worst state of all the states that are in play. ... It's the obvious state, in my perspective, to come off the list."
DuHaime said the campaign would be moving operations to Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, where they feel they have a better chance of picking up electoral votes. Democrats have won Wisconsin by 1 point or less the last two elections, and John Kerry won Pennsylvania by just 3 points in 2004. Obama currently leads by at least 5 points in the RCP Averages in both states.
DuHaime and senior adviser Greg Strimple, also on the conference call, also said they plan to move resources to Maine, which has voted Democratic in the last four elections. Obama currently leads by 7.6 points there, higher than his current margin in Michigan.
They noted that they feel they're currently at 260 electoral votes and that they're competitive in six to eight other states where they'll need to pick up 10 more votes.
