Dow Takes a Hit

As we wait to hear the outcome -- for this week at least -- of the bailout bill on the Hill, the Dow has taken a hit following news that the compromise so far hasn't materialized:

Stocks slumped Friday morning as the proposed $700 billion bank rescue plan hit gridlock and JP Morgan bought Washington Mutual after it was seized by federal regulators, in the biggest bank failure in U.S. history.

Democrats will certainly blame McCain's presence as one of the factors contributing to the failure, but McCain can counter that he's trying to do something. If nothing happens today, the debate is likely on the rocks, and I think that could work in McCain's favor. But we just don't know yet.
