Pew: Race A Dead Heat

The new national poll from Pew Research shows Obama and McCain tied at 46% each among likely voters (Sept. 9-14, 2307 LV). According to Pew, voters were contacted on landline as well as cell phones, the latter likely improving the poll's accuracy among younger voters. Since the last poll taken in early August, McCain has closed Obama's margin on who best can handle arguably the top issues of this campaign -- the economy and energy -- though Obama still leads both.

Obama 46 (nc vs. last poll, July 31-Aug. 10)
McCain 46 (+3)

Obama leads by 1.9 points in the RCP National Average
