'Troopergate' Update

The New York Sun has the latest in the investigation going on in Alaska:

Governor Palin is unlikely to speak with an independent counsel hired by Alaska lawmakers to review the firing of her public safety commissioner, a spokesman for the Republican presidential candidate, Senator McCain, said today.

The spokesman, Ed O'Callaghan, initially said Mr. Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, would not testify as part of the probe "as long as it remains tainted." He later clarified his statement to say Mr. Palin is "unlikely to cooperate" with the inquiry.

That's supposed to be "Mrs." I think. Clearly the McCain campaign is trying to get this one behind it, as the AP reports:

The presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain is trying to put to rest the ethical controversy that's come to be known as "Troopergate," releasing e-mails supporting Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's contention that she dismissed her public safety commissioner over budget disagreements, not because he wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law.
