Biden: Palin a 'Backward Step for Women'

Speaking in Wisconsin, The Hill reports:
Asked by a local television reporter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin if electing Palin would be a step forward for women, Biden said, "well look, I think the issue is what does Sarah Palin think? What does she believe?"
"I assume she thinks and agrees with the same policies that George Bush and John McCain think," Biden added. "And that's obviously a backward step for women."
Conservatives have remarked often enough that the only minority or woman liberals want to see progress are liberal minorities or liberal women. The idea being, that a conservative minority or woman takes the "wrong" positions for their class as a whole. In other words, it doesn't count.
I'm not sure if Biden's comments will come back to haunt him, but you can see how the McCain campaign can make this an issue: How can the first woman vice president be a "backward step for women"? Because she's not a liberal? Now who's playing the old politics?
