Crossing Party Lines

Last week in Denver Barack Obama rolled out a number of Republicans who were crossing party lines to vote for him. The most prominent among the group was former Iowa Congressman Jim Leach who gave a prime time speech on Monday night.

The McCain campaign returned the favor featuring Joe Lieberman as the key note speaker last night, but earlier in the day they held a press conference featuring a number of lesser known Democrats who've joined the group Citizens for McCain. Five of the six who spoke yesterday were former supporters of Hillary Clinton.

Among this group was John Coale, a former long time fund raiser for Bill and Hillary Clinton who also happens to be the husband of Fox News host Greta Van Susteren. Coale traveled extensively with the Clintons in the Rust Belt during the primaries, and when I asked whether the rift between the Clinton and Obama supporters was being overplayed by the media last week and whether real unity was achieved in Denver, this is how Coale responded:
