In conjunction with the Denver Post, Las Vegas Review-Journal, and Salt Lake Tribune, Mason-Dixon recently conducted a survey of six Western states: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. 400 likely voters were polled in each state from August 13-15 with a margin of error of +/- 5.0% in each state. As a region, John McCain is leading Barack Obama in these Western states by an overall total of nine points, 48 to 39, with 13% undecided.
Those numbers are skewed by the heavy Republican tilt of Utah and Wyoming, and while we don't have breakout horserace numbers for each state at the moment, we do have numbers for Nevada:
McCain 46 (+2 vs. last poll June 9-11)
Obama 39 (-3)
Undecided 15
Overall, McCain leads Obama by 3.0 points in the RCP Average for Nevada.
As far as the other states go, we can glean the following bits and pieces of info from this piece in the Salt Lake Tribune:
Colorado is the only one of the six states where Obama is ahead, but his 3-percentage-point advantage is within the 5-point margin of error.
McCain has his biggest lead in Utah, where 62 percent of respondents said they would vote for him, even higher than his home state of Arizona, where 47 percent back McCain.
We'll bring you the other numbers as soon as they become available.
