At Issue in Nevada

Barack Obama has launched an ad in Nevada attacking John McCain over his support - now somewhat equivocated support, I should add - of Yucca Mountain.
But the Obama campaign may not have its finger exactly on the pulse of Nevadans these days, because Yucca hasn't seemed to matter much in the last few cycles.
On the other hand, there's a new poll out in Nevada showing that there is a subject Nevadans appear to be in fairly interested in:
Illegal immigration might have become a back-burner issue to some politicians, but a new poll shows the issue remains a hot topic with Southern Nevada voters.
A survey by Marvin Longabaugh of Magellan Research leaves little doubt where local voters stand: 79.2 percent of those recently polled believe illegal immigration is a "major problem." Just 16.2 percent call it a "minor problem." Along political lines, 87.8 percent of Republicans and 71 percent of Democrats surveyed said they believed it was a major problem. [snip]
Those surveyed substantially favored building a 700-mile fence along the Mexico-U.S. border to help keep illegal aliens out, 62.2 percent to 31.7 percent.
And there was also this:
Despite the apparent hard line, a majority of voters surveyed also endorse having illegals register with the government and start along a pathway to citizenship. In fact, 68 percent of those polled believe it's a good idea with 24.6 percent disagreeing.
Those numbers seem to be right in line with McCain's position on immigration. Obama, of course, is to the left of McCain on illegal immigration. In the primary, he knocked Hillary over her double talk on the issue of drivers licenses for illegals and then famously did the same thing as he came out in favor of the idea.
He also voted for the construction of a border fence in 2006 but seriously walked back the idea of a fence - this is going to shock you, I'm sure - just days before the Texas primary during the CNN debate in Austin.
