Obama Leads In PA, NJ Polls

Obama holds leads in two new polls in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In the Keystone State, a new Franklin & Marshall (.pdf) poll shows Obama up 5 points over McCain among likely voters (his lead jumps to 8 points with registered voters). The margin remains almost unchanged since the last poll was taken in mid-June.

Unlike Pennsylvania, which is one of the key battleground states, New Jersey is not expected to be competitive. The state has voted Democratic the last four elections, though Pres. Bush cut his losing margin from 16 points in 2000 to 7 points in 2004. A new Quinnipiac poll shows Obama leading by 10 points, a margin increase of 4 points since the last poll taken in early June, shortly after Obama secured the Democratic nomination.

Pennsylvania (August 4-9, 370 LV)

Obama 46 (+4 vs. last poll, June 16-22)

Obama leads by 6.8 points in the RCP Average for Pennsylvania

New Jersey (August 4-10, 1468 LV)

Obama 51 (+6 vs. last poll, June 5-8)
McCain 41 (+2)

Obama leads by 10.7 points in the RCP Average for New Jersey
