The Obama campaign today announced that former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday night during the Democratic convention. The AP broke the story late last night.
Warner is currently running for the open Senate seat in Virginia and had been mentioned as a possible running mate to Obama, though he withdrew his name from consideration. Some had previously assumed Hillary Clinton would be delivering the address because she will also be speaking that night.
From Obama's press release this morning:
The Obama for America Campaign is announcing today that former Virginia Governor Mark Warner will deliver the keynote address at the 2008 Democratic Convention on Tuesday, August 26th, the second night of the Convention. An innovative businessman known for his ability to work with Republicans, Democrats and Independents, Warner's vision for Virginia and his leadership style echo the Convention's theme of Americans coming together for change. The Convention theme on Tuesday will be Renewing America's Promise.
