"Georgia Conflict Tests Candidates on Foreign Policy" (Laura Meckler, Wall Street Journal) - The violence between Russia and Georgia quickly thrust foreign policy into the U.S. presidential election, with John McCain standing to benefit and Barack Obama facing a more perilous situation.

"Pro-Obama group has $10M for election" (Ben Smith, The Politico) - PowerPAC.org, which aided Obama in the Democratic Primary, is launching a voter registration drive in the African-American south and a media campaign targeting Hispanic voters in four Western states, said the group's president, Steve Phillips. He said the aim was to capitalize on Obama's momentum to benefit progressive causes and candidates around the country.

"Centrist voters are tilting from Obama" (Ralph Hallow, Washington Times) - State Republican Party leaders interviewed by The Washington Times said fear of a far-left Obama presidency is warming once-skeptical voters to Sen. John McCain, fueling growing enthusiasm among Republicans that Mr. McCain's more aggressive campaigning can lead to victory.

"Social Initiatives on State Ballots Could Draw Attention to Presidential Race" (Ian Urbina, New York Times) - Divisive social issues will be on the ballot in several states in November, including constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage in Arizona, California and Florida, and limitations on abortion in California, Colorado and South Dakota.

Fox and Friends - McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds on Obama's new ad: "It's quirky, it's a response, but I don't think it fits who John McCain really is."
