"McCain Says Obama Plays Politics on Iraq" (Juliet Eilperin, Washington Post) - In his most direct challenge yet of his Democratic presidential rival's Iraq policy, Sen. John McCain suggested yesterday that Sen. Barack Obama had crafted a war strategy designed to further his own political advancement.

"Obama says McCain flip-flops by opposing affirmative action" (William Douglas, McClatchy) - Presidential challengers John McCain and Barack Obama sparred over affirmative action Sunday, with McCain backing an effort to end state and locally run minority preferences and Obama saying policies that consider race need to continue.

"Obama says he's becoming competitive in red states" (David Epso, AP) - With 100 days remaining in the race for the White House, Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama says he has succeeded in expanding the electoral map in his race against John McCain, principally in southern and southwestern states but also in Montana and North Dakota.

"Republicans Seek to Capitalize On Drilling Support" (John McKinnon, Elizabeth Holmes and Stephen Power, Wall Street Journal) - Republicans are upping the ante on their bet that energy issues -- especially increased domestic oil production -- will be key to closing Democrats' imposing advantage with voters on the economy.
