Dem Convo Moves To Stadium For 1 Night

The Democratic National Convention Committee officially announced today its plans to hold the fourth night of the late August convention in Denver's Invesco Field, the vast stadium where the NFL's Broncos play. The first three nights will be held across the parking lot in the Pepsi Center, an arena home to basketball and hockey games.

On a conference call with reporters today, DNC chairman Howard Dean said he was "delighted" by the move because the "convention is meant to be opened up to the American people."

"It's going to be new. It's going to be different. It's going to be incredibly exciting. It's going to be very much in keeping with Senator Obama's desire for real change in America," he said.

Dean also disputed a New York Times story from yesterday that detailed a number of issues involved with putting together the Denver convention, including "spiraling costs."

"The New York Times article was wrong," Dean said. He didn't want to guess how much more expensive holding the fourth night in the nearby football stadium would be, but added: "If we were over budget we wouldn't be doing this."
