The Morning Report

In the Headlines:

"Clinton to Join Obama as He Courts Female Vote" (Shailagh Murray and Anne E. Kornblut, Washington Post) - As Hillary Rodham Clinton prepared to return to life in the Senate and announced that she will campaign with Sen. Barack Obama in New Hampshire on Friday, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee began reaching out to female voters who had formed the backbone of Clinton's support in the primary season.

"McCain disavows aide's comment about terrorism" (Glen Johnson, AP) - A top adviser to John McCain said another terrorist attack on U.S. soil would be a "big advantage" for the Republican presidential candidate, drawing a sharp rebuke Monday from both the presumed GOP nominee and Democrat Barack Obama.

"Obama tacks away from his left-wing base" (Alexander Bolton, The Hill) - Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is shifting to the center after months of battling Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) for the hearts of the Democratic Party's liberal base. His recent strategy of political triangulation has already sparked a fight with MoveOn.org, a powerful liberal advocacy group.

"McCain's Choice to help with veep is discreet lawyer" (Liz Sidoti, AP) - The choice for John McCain's running mate is such a mystery that few people even know who is helping in that search. The Republican is leaning on a consummate behind-the-scenes player in Washington - attorney Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr. - for this maximum-discretion, minimal-disclosure assignment.

From the Morning Shows:

Morning Joe - Tim Pawlenty, on vp potential: "John McCain's going to have a lot of good people to consider... I don't think it's up to me to decide."
