The Morning Report

In the Headlines:

"Obama Pushes Effort to Claim Victory Tonight" (Adam Nagourney, Carl Hulse and Jeff Zeleny, New York Times) - Senator Barack Obama's campaign began a concerted effort on Monday to rally undecided superdelegates around him so he can claim the Democratic presidential nomination after the primaries end on Tuesday night.

"Iran Emerges as Key Issue in Jewish Vote" (Jay Solomon and Elizabeth Holmes, Wall Street Journal) - John McCain told Washington's most powerful pro-Israel lobby that if elected president he would drastically ramp up financial pressure on Iran's rulers by targeting the country's gasoline imports and imposing sanctions against its central bank.

"Dream ticket momentum gains strength" (Sam Youngman, The Hill) - The political environment within the Democratic Party has changed significantly, which could back Democratic front-runner Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) into a corner and force him to select his rival as his running mate.

"McCain to try to claim mantle of change" (Liz Sidoti, Associated Press) - With voters sour on the status quo, Republican John McCain plans to spend the next five months arguing that he has a history of fighting to reform government and that Democrat Barack Obama talks of change with nothing to show for it.

On the Morning Shows:

Today - Rep. James Clyburn, on whether Obama can clinch the nomination today: "Today the process ends and I hope enough of us announce our intentions today so this evening our presumptive nominee will achieve the threshold. I want to hear [from Clinton] expressions of unity...she gets a party that is very grateful to her."

Terry McAuliffe: "We've got two big contests today, we just came off a huge win in Puerto Rico, until someone has that magic number we're going to continue to fight. She has received more votes more than any candidate running on either side in history. When you get the number you get the number, but we're not there yet."
