Bluegrass, Beavers & Cake Baking

The campaign plods along into Kentucky and Oregon today where the presumptive nominee of the Democratic party looks like he is going to get shellacked by 25+ points in a state that has voted for the eventual winner of the White House in every cycle since 1960. But he's also likely to offset that loss with a +/-10 point victory in Oregon which, in terms of the media coverage, means that tonight will be a push.
Does any of this matter? No. It's all baked in the cake. Furthermore, it's clear that pretty much everyone, including the media, is exhausted and tired of this routine. Viewers are just as tired of seeing John King manipulate his map as I'm sure he'll be doing it for the umpteenth time tonight. Meanwhile, the same group of talking heads on the same three cable nets will fill a couple hours worth of coverage having another go over the same turf they've been discussing for at least the last 12 weeks - despite the fact that Kentucky will probably be an instant call and we won't know anything about Oregon until tomorrow morning.
The Democratic primary race has been thrilling, but while the death lock the two candidates have been stuck in for months now was once seen as exciting bloodsport, now it's just boring. More of the same. Overkill.
This turned out to be a huge liability for Hillary Clinton, who is still out there fighting for her political life and who is on track to overtake Obama in the popular vote (including Florida). But the media has moved on. It certainly hasn't helped Clinton that so many members of the media and pundit class - including the entire staff at MSNBC - have been on the Obama bandwagon for most of the campaign and see this last stretch of primaries as unnecessary and harmful to their preferred candidate.
