IN & NC Census Snapshots

The U.S. Census Bureau recently released its demographic statistics for the two states holding Democratic primaries today: Indiana and North Carolina.
The median age in both states is about the same as the U.S. average, unlike Pennsylvania, whose population is older than most states. Indiana has a much higher percentage of whites (83.9%), while North Carolina has a higher than average percentage of blacks (21.7%). The U.S. average for whites is 66.4% and for blacks is 12.8%. Both states have well below the average of Hispanics or Latinos.
North Carolina has a slightly higher than average percentage of persons below the poverty line, while both states have a lower than average percentage of persons with a college degree. Also, the median home value in both states is well below the U.S. average.
