Quick Post-Debate Reax

We've only just begun to hear the name William Ayers.

I thought Obama handled Clinton's assaults fairly well, although his answer on the "bitter cling" stuff still sounded forced and not quite convincing. As did, I should add, Clinton's answer on her Bosnia tale. There are simply some gaffes that can't be explained away very well.

But the proverbial elephant in the room seemed to be William Ayers. Obama's weak response -- that Bill Clinton pardoned a pair of Weather Underground members -- isn't adequate. Nor was the explanation that the "English professor" Ayers committed his crimes "40 years ago" when Obama was 8 years old. Nor was it very wise to mention Sen. Tom Coburn in the same sentence as a guy like Ayers, which echoes Obama invoking his white grandmother in comparison to Jeremiah Wright.

Which leads to: Did Clinton do enough? Did she, as Tom noted below, make the point that voters just don't know Obama very well yet? If tomorrow voters are wondering who Ayers is, I'd said tonight went in her favor.
