Economics and the Environment

Here's your random thought of the day: With the economy careening toward recession; with Obama and Clinton focusing so hard on the lifting the working-class; with 3 am ads coming from all sides about how to get us out of the present mess -- just where does Al Gore's $300 million campaign to accelerate action on global warming fit in?

Every candidate is talking about some way to combat global-warming, but while the country is facing an economic crisis, where does the "cap-and-trade" idea, supported by all the candidates, fit in?

Although some do, it's hard to deny the adverse economic consequences of curbing greenhouse gas emissions. So in these hard economic times, which are only just beginning, is it really wise to legislate greater regulations on industry? Because McCain is on board, he can't very well point this out in one of his counterattack ads hitting Obama or Clinton on the economy.

Anyway, getting back to Gore, he's never been known for having great timing.
