Chicago Sun-Times gossip columnist Michael Sneed gives us two interesting tidbits this morning. First, Client 10 - known now as the guy standing behind Eliot Spitzer in line at the Emperor's Club - is not Michael Jordan, as some were apparently speculating.
There's also this:
Sneed hears rumbles former GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is being touted as John McCain's veepmate by the top leadership of the National Republican Central Committee -- and privately by Dubya's dad, former President George Herbert Walker Bush.
** The upshot: Romney wants the job.
Not surprising, really. I still think Romney is a long shot for #2, but I could be wrong.
In other Veep news, Steven Stark promotes Tom Ridge for McCain's running mate, and Todd Domke rates various contenders by a set of criteria and computes the following Top Ten List:
10) Mark Sanford
9) Elizabeth Dole
Sam Brownback
7) Chris Cox
6) Kay Bailey Hutchison
5) Colin Powell
4) Mike Huckabee
3) Condoleezza Rice
2) Charlie Crist
1) Tim Pawlenty
Of course, long before Hendrick Hertzberg got a light bulb over his head about Condi Rice, RCP readers had picked the Secretary of State as the winner of Veepstakes!.
