A few important inaugurations happened today: In 1861 and again in 1865, Abraham Lincoln takes the oath of office. In 1933, Franklin Roosevelt takes the oath of office. On to today's Super Tuesday, the Sequel, stories:
"Texas Weighs in Today on Democratic Nail-biter" (Christy Hoppe and Todd Gillman, Dallas Morning News) It's basically a tie between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. The question is whether Obama can pick off enough of Clinton's Hispanic support to win the vote total.
"Polls Crowded on Eve of Primary" (Associated Press) With rough weather expected today, many Ohioans in this Columbus-datelined article tried to get in early. Despite the weather, turnout is expected to be high throughout all the major primaries today.
"8 Questions That Today's Primaries Could Answer" (Dan Balz, Washington Post) Will Clinton drop out? What will superdelegates do if Obama just wins Texas? What's the deal with the Texas voting system? Reporter Balz answers the tough questions.
"Surveying Ohio's Democratic Landscape" (Scott Martelle, Los Angeles Times) Aside from the usual demographic divides, Ohio is also divided by the northern urban areas and the more rural south. Reporter Martelle walks through some of the peculiarities of this state.
"Obama Takes Heat Over NAFTA Memo, Rezko" (Rick Pearson and John McCormick, Chicago Tribune) It's been a rough couple days for Obama. First, the NAFTA issue essentially exploded in his face following a memo that essentially undermined the campaign's whole story line. Then, the Tony Rezko trial began yesterday, putting Obama on the defensive with reporters.
"Clinton Suggests She'll Battle on After Tuesday Primaries" (Jill Lawrence, USA Today) Going by the polls, things are looking good for Clinton to continue the race. Losing both Texas and Ohio will almost certainly end her campaign, but a win in Ohio could provide just the reason to keep going.
"McCain Blasts Russian Election" (Laura Meckler, Wall Street Journal) Taking a moment away from blasting his likely rival in the fall election, McCain went after the "democratic" election in Russia.
"Republicans Like McCain Most, but Obama Not Too Far Behind" (Stephen Dinan, Washington Times) A new poll shows that in terms of likability, Obama and McCain are neck-and-neck -- among Republicans.
"Low-key Start to Rezko Trial" (Natasha Korecki, Chicago Sun-Times) Chicago reporters are growing increasingly frustrated with the Obama campaign's perceived stonewalling on Rezko questions. Now that the trial has started, those questions will likely come more frequently.
