Rep. Tom Lantos, a Bay Area Democrat, died early this morning in a Washington, D.C.-area hospital. Lantos, the only Holocaust survivor to ever serve in Congress, had recently been diagnosed with esophageal cancer, and had already announced he would not return to Congress in 2009.
