The PM Line

In a press conference today, President Bush lambasted Congress for wasteful spending and said he would reserve judgment on the CIA interrogation tapes that were destroyed.

Sometimes when you're a second-tier candidate like Tom Tancredo, the biggest headlines of your campaign are on the day it ends. Which is not to discount Tancredo's influence on the race, especially immigration issues, which reached a point where the candidate once observed that everyone on stage was trying to "out-Tancredo Tancredo." As Chris Cillizza notes, his endorsement of Romney will certainly not hurt the latter's chances in Iowa.

"I feel great." Rudy Giuliani was released from the St. Louis hospital where he spent the night after experiencing flu-like symptoms. He will resume the campaign on Saturday with stops in New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, Marc Ambinder gauges Rudy's "29 Inning" primary strategy.

Take that, Drudge! At a press conference in Detroit, John McCain responded to a story on the Drudge Report that his campaign was trying to kill a story in the New York Times.

"It is tempting any time things seem quieter for a minute on the international front to think that we don't need a president who is up to speed on foreign affairs and military matters." Hillary Clinton makes her closing argument to Iowa voters.

With questions coming from -- where else? -- the Clinton campaign, Barack Obama defended voting "present" on controversial votes while an Illinois legislator.

Mitt Romney opened up another broadside against Huckabee today, this time issuing a press release claiming the former Arkansas governor was lenient on meth dealers.

Via Ben Smith, the Politico's Ben Adler has the story on an Edwards aide in Iowa who told a university student that unless she and her friends were from Iowa and had voted previously in local elections it would be "not ethical" for them to caucus. The Edwards campaign denies the story.
