Clinton hedges again when asked a direct question about driver's licenses for illegal immigrants (Via Ben Smith):

Clinton's unwillingness to give a direct answer on the issue remains a serious problem, not only as a matter of policy but because of the damage it does to her image and her trustworthiness.

Public opinion on the matter is clear. Yesterday Rasmussen Reports released a poll showing 77% opposed issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Today, a new Quinnipiac poll in Pennsylvania pegs the same number at 81%, including 72% of Democrats and 85% of Independents. More than half of those surveyed in the Quinnipiac poll (56%) consider illegal immigration a "very serious problem" (Republicans 64%, Independents 54%, Democrats 49%).

So far it's unclear just how much of a toll the issue is taking on Clinton's support in the polls. On one hand, the Marist poll released yesterday showed Clinton dropping from 52% support before the debate to 43% after the debate, and a CNN poll released yesterday showed her dropping 7 points in three weeks.

On the other hand, polls by Gallup and Rasmussen completed after the debate haven't shown any damage to Clinton as a result of her performance.

However, Rasmussen just released a poll of New Hampshire showing Democratic primary voters overwhelmingly rejecting the idea of driver's licenses for illegal immigrants that also shows Clinton's lead shrinking to just 10 points.
