Spitzer's NY Blues

Fred Dicker of the New York Post reports Governor Eliot Spitzer's administration is claiming executive privilege in "an effort to limit the Public Integrity Commission's ongoing probe of the Dirty Tricks Scandal."
In addition to that ongoing saga, Spitzer has been brutalized by members of both parties for his proposal to grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Spitzer recently buckled to criticism and modified his proposal - a move characterized by the New York Daily News this morning as "executing a twisting double-backflip that wins him no points for style" - though the outcome remains unclear.
Spitzer has had a rough go over his first 10 months in Albany, far worse than anyone expected from the buttoned-up prosecutor who waltzed into office winning 69% of the vote last November. Indeed, it seems the more New Yorkers get to know their new Governor, the less impressed they are with him. Spitzer's approval rating has dropped a net 45 points since he took office, and the most recent survey taken two weeks ago showed a majority disapproving of his job performance for the first time.
