Rudy Giuliani wants you to know that as president he, and the country, will be prepared for anything -- disasters, terrorist attacks, intergalactic aliens on a mission to wipe out the human race, nuclear proliferation, wait ... what?

At a townhall meeting in New Hampshire yesterday, a young boy asked Giuliani, "If (there's) something living on another planet and it's bad and it comes over here, what would you do?"

Grinning, Giuliani said, "Of all the things that can happen in this world, we'll be prepared for that, yes we will." Whew. Rest easy, fellow Earthlings.

Tomorrow in Washington, the leading GOP candidates -- and Sam Brownback -- will address the Republican Jewish Coalition to focus on national security and Middle East policy. (Russell Berman, New York Sun)

The event will include Fred Thompson, who, New Hampshire voters are noticing, has been conspicuously absent from the campaign trail since last week's Michigan debate. (Philip Elliott, Associated Press)

John McCain met a member of "the average European Christian, native-born American" voting bloc at a event in New Hampshire yesterday, who questioned him on his immigration policies. (Holly Ramer, Associated Press)

Are Ron Paulites worried that their guy trails in New Hampshire? Hardly. (Jose Antonio Vargas, Washington Post)

Finally. John Edwards is starting to see his heavy courting of union activists pay off. (Thomas Beaumont, Des Moines Register)

Telling it like it is. Barack Obama said yesterday in Iowa that if you want a cleaner environment, you're going to have to pay for it. (Rick Pearson, Chicago Tribune) But, Obama said, protecting the environment is the Lord's work. (CNN)

For the candidates, it's not what you say, it's how good you look saying it. (Maria Puente, USA Today)

New Orleans is lobbying heavily to clinch one of the primetime presidential debates next year. (Sean Lengell, Washington Times)
