The Detroit Free Press reports:
Two of three leading Democratic presidential nominees have removed their names from the Jan. 15 Michigan presidential primary.
U.S. Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards both filed paperwork to have their names withdrawn minutes ago with the Michigan Secretary of State's office.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson sent a letter yesterday, also asking to be taken off the list.
As the Free Press notes, the question is what will Hillary do.
In the Washington Post today, Sen. Carl Levin and Rep. John Dingell, both from Michigan, complained about the dominance of Iowa and New Hampshire in the primary calendar.
"Why the hell do New Hampshire and Iowa have a claim to the attention to their issues?" demanded Levin. Said Dingell, "No matter what, people are going to pay attention to what happens on January 15 ... even if it's a beauty contest."
