Obama's Racial Tightrope

He's working hard to win the African-American vote in South Carolina - particularly women - while at the same time trying to transcend race.

On a related note, one of the black women interviewed for the Los Angeles Times story expresses her mixed emotions about choosing between Hillary and Barack:

"I want to vote for Barack Obama because he's a brother, and I would love to see him in office and I am sure he can do the job. But I just don't know if everybody else feels like I do, and I don't want to throw away my vote. I am praying for both of them to be on the same ticket."

Roger Simon makes the case for why that probably won't happen. So how will black voters feel if Clinton wins the nomination and snubs Obama in favor of, say, a white guy from Indiana, and will it make any difference in African-American turnout next November?
