Different Styles

Take Mitt Romney's response to Hillary Clinton's health-care proposal:

And compare it to what Fred Thompson is doing, as in this video response to Hillary:

With Romney, you have the polish, the talking points, the script. With Thompson, it's the in media res quality: the moving car, the undone tie, the look as if Thompson is about to lose his train of thought, and then delivers a witty ending. (Don't be fooled of course: Thompson's was just as heavily scripted.)

Perhaps the biggest difference is the familiarity to the audience. Romney is only talking to the viewer in his traditional campaign commercials, whereas Fred prefers, because he excels, in this format -- first seen in his response to Michael Moore. So, is this what Fred's official ads, to be run on TV, are going to look like? Reality TV as Commercial?
