New Carolinas Poll from the Charlotte Observer and WCNC. For this survey, Braun Research interviewed 600 people in Mecklenburg County (the greater Charlotte area), 201 people from the rest of North Carolina and 300 people from South Carolina. Interviews were conducted August 15-19.
The results show Hillary Clinton with a strong lead over her two named rivals in the poll among Democrats:
Clinton 52.4
Obama 16.7
Edwards 14.3
Undecided 8.6
None 5.3
Another Dem 2.7
Among Republicans, the vote was fairly evenly spread across the three named candidates, as well as the "another GOP candidate" - which would of course include Fred Thompson:
McCain 20.1
Giuliani 19.2
None 15.4
Undecided 15.1
Another GOP Candidate 14.7
Mitt Romney 14.7
Obviously, you can see the dissatisfaction among the Republican electorate reflected in the fact more than 15% answered "none" and another 15% remain undecided. That's nearly one in three Republican voters who aren't happy with their choices, which is more than double the level of dissatisfaction you see in this poll among Democrats.
