WJLA, Washington's ABC affiliate, reports that Congressman Bob Filner, a California Democrat, was charged with assault Monday after an altercation Sunday night at Dulles Airport outside the District.

Filner, on his way to Iraq, is said to have entered an employees-only area at the airport and pushed an employee, who later decided to file charges. Filner has been ordered to appear in court October 1st.

In 2006, Filner, who is white, narrowly won renomination, with 52% in a district with a majority Hispanic population, over then-Assemblyman Juan Vargas, who took 41%.
