Who You Callin' a Knuckledragger?

Markos Moulitsas on last night's debate (via RealClearBlogs):

Hillary was right in the debate -- "don't ask, don't tell" was an interim step at a time when public sentiment against gays was far more negative. That policy is obsolete now that public opinion has passed it by and it will soon be history.

In the same way, "civil unions" is an interim step as public sentiment catches up, and in a generation, people will wonder at the neanderthals who stymied progress for so long.

If you look at the most recent polling broken down by party, those smeared by Markos as "neanderthals" include one out of three Democrats and one out of three Independents.
