Ben Smith catches this news release saying that Michelle Obama has resigned her seat on the board of Treehouse Foods, a supplier that counts the retail giant Wal-Mart among its biggest customers*, citing "increased demands on her time."

I wrote about Mrs. Obama's Wal-Mart connection when it surfaced at the end of last year. I'm actually surprised it took this long for her to dump what was an obvious potential political liability.

CORRECTION: The original version of the post cited Treehouse Foods as one of Wal-Mart's "biggest suppliers."
